Quietly changing
In our busy daily lives, we often hear about things we don’t entirely understand, like when scientists say the world is ‘quietly changing.’ It’s fair to ask, how does this all connect to you? For example, why should you switch from your usual car to the so-called ‘electric vehicle’? The truth is, we’ve discovered that our environment has been slowly dying due to our reliance on fossil fuels for energy. The majority of this consumption is evident in transportation. That’s why an invention like electric vehicles is literally going to save us!
Electric vehicles, or ‘EVs’ for short, are an exemplary modern invention in transportation. Imagine a complete transformation of your ride from an environmental standpoint. Let me explain: Electric cars are exactly what they’re called—electric. They derive the energy to run from the electric batteries built into them instead of regular fuel. Using electricity conserves the amount of energy we take from the environment and reduces the waste we put back into it. EVs allow us to do just that, while our regular cars require constant refueling with petrol, gasoline, or diesel, depending on the engine you use—all of which are extremely harmful substances both for the environment and for human beings.
Many countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia, are struggling with road congestion daily. While it may not be a huge problem in itself, having that many cars pollute the air we breathe every single day is concerning, as most of us drive regular cars that release toxic chemicals like CO2, which accumulates in the atmosphere and can stay up there for 200 years, according to climate scientists. This is why the weather is slowly becoming hotter each year throughout the world, making it more difficult for natural habitats, like plants and rare animals, to survive. Now, can you imagine how much harm to the environment you can avoid by using electric vehicles?
One of the advantages of electric vehicles is noise reduction. Because of how they are smartly built, did you know that they produce only 10% of the noise that regular vehicles do? This is a rare quality for modern inventions, one that enhances your experience while driving and that of your family. Noise is one of the most well-known problems of modern life—a man-made and lingering public health concern, especially in densely populated cities and countries.
By now, everyone must have heard of the deadly hurricanes in Haiti and the U.S., the ongoing depletion of the Amazon forests in Brazil, and the droughts of historical rivers like the Nile, Tigris, and Euphrates. These events are connected to one problem: the environment is overwhelmed, and the climate is changing, with temperatures rising. The world has been battling to save the environment ever since. The fuel we extract from the environment has to stop, and the non-stop consumption of fossil fuels must be replaced with other sources of energy that do not harm the environment and still provide us with what we need.
